Understand that your engine MUST be in good working order. Fuel injection replaces the Carbs/Distributor, it does not fix an engine in poor condition. We load your ECM based on the type of kit ordered, but most engines are not plug-and-play and may require some adjustment using a laptop. We will assist you with the changes remotely, but a certain level of knowledge is required for the perfect running Corvair. After those initial entries, no periodic adjustments or monitoring is required, but it is cool to have your laptop with all the engine functions displayed.
The most important things are:
Compression: Most EFI installs that had trouble was due to low/no compression on 1 or more cylinders. PERFORM A COMPRESSION CHECK. A minimum of 90 psi per cylinder on all cylinders is required. If your engine has poor compression, find out why, repair it, and then install the kit. Poor compression/cylinder misfire will cause major fluctuations in the MAP sensor, which will, in turn, send the wrong amount of fuel to the injectors and make your engine run lousy.
Skills: Do you have the skills to install this? You need a medium set of mechanical skills to install this kit. You do not have to be an ace mechanic but like anything else, the more knowledge you have the easier the installation will go. The most important tools are a laptop and a voltage meter. This will allow you and us (remotely) to diagnose lost/disconnected cables, etc. If you don’t have the skills, I am sure someone in your club/locally does for not very much money if any. This kit eliminates a lot of the guesswork that carbs and points can cause.
Configuration: A Wideband O2 is a must for this project. If you plan to use a narrowband O2 sensor, set up with a Wideband first.
